Simple Snowflakes

Any one who stops by our booth at the Western Fair can get a special postcard entitling you to 15% off your order through me! The card is valid anytime this year, but I am only giving them out at the fair!

Remember the really pretty folded snowflake I made a while back? Well I was going to teach it at one of my classes at the fair, but after it took me 3 days and a lot of patience to make 10 for a 3-D swap I decided that it might be a little too intense… So I was left to come up with a new ornament! Here it is:
PICT5107a

I cut out two snowflakes with the Big Shot die and sponged them with coordinating colours. I stuck them together with a dimensional to pop up out the front snowflake, then stuck a rhinestone brad through the two snowflakes and the dimensional. Instead of ribbon for the loop I used the new silver cord from the Holiday Mini. That’s it! Told you it was easy!!!

Beautiful Beginner Birthday Cards

Well this week is flying by! Preparations for the Western Fair are in full swing, Kristine and I popped over to Alesha’s today to help her prep some of her classes and get some flyers stamped…lots of flyers…more flyers then I ever want to see again…Right Kristine? LOL. Its a relief to know I only have one class left to prep for, its been a tough one too! But I have finally decided on a design and I’m pretty sure it’s going to look great! Don’t worry, I’ll post it when I’m done!

In the meantime, here is the card I am teaching for the Beginner Birthday Card Class on September 17th. I’ve had Crazy for Cupcakes for a while but I have never used the balloon, so when I saw this card I knew I had to make it! The original design was from a stamp-a-stack that Kristine did a while back, and it’s the first time anyone has cased one of her cards! She was so flattered that I liked it so much. So if you are like me and love this card, be sure to leave your comments. Let’s show Kristine some love! For these ones I used Pink Flamingo DSP and coordinating cardstock. Then I added the colour to the balloons with my pastels. Et Voila! Beautiful Beginner Birthday Card! Of course I had to make extras for myself, I think I’ll give one to my close friend for his birthday today!

IMG_2208

I apologize if the pictures are not great, I always end up trying to take pictures at night, with horrible lighting and as you can see, Axel was in the spot with the best light… So after we established that the cards were not toys or food…he actually bit the card and now I have teeth holes in one of them…we compromised and shared the spot…   ENJOY!

Chipboard Mini Albums

One of the very cool demonstrations was this great little chipboard album. I whipped up a couple on Monday, and I think this year they might be included in some of my Christmas gifts. They are really easy to make, and don't use a lot of supplies. Remember those hockey card holders that were a little bit stronger than the regular ones? Well, make sure you stop by your local trading card store, because you are going to want to make a whole bunch of theses! Someone suggested that you can get them from the dollar store, but I found that they were actually cheaper at sports card stores. I got my chipboard from the scrapbook store in Hyde Park (how scary is that it's like walking distance from my house?) and she carries black chipboard as well as the traditional kraft colour. I used the Big Shot to create texture on the cardstock for both albums, and some coordinating ribbon. I liked the black because I didn't have use DSP, just some embellishments. I think it looks really classy, what do you think?

So just to give everyone an update on the Fair, we are busy preparing for all the classes, so hopefully I should have some samples to post soon. I have seen a few of the projects and I CAN'T WAIT! Alesha, Kristine, Caitlyn and I had a meeting last night at Kristine's house, to discuss some details, and figured out the layout of the booth. We are going to have TONS of samples, videos of some amazing demonstrations and slide shows of even MORE samples. If our booth doesn't spark your creativity, I'm not sure what will! It was a fun night...including the unfortunate end to a few spiders and a minor issue involving the front end of my car, which to those involved, I found it all actually quite funny and was NOT a big deal, oddly enough I think it was the highlight of my week...

Here is the tutorial for the Chipboard Mini Albums (and thank you to Jodie for designing it!):

Supplies: Chipboard, Whisper White cardstock, Sticky Strip, hockey card holders, DSP or cardstock and embellishments for the covers

  1. Cut one piece of Whisper White, 9" x 3 ½". Whisper White cardstock as it is thinner and will hold together the best!
  2. Accurately measure on the 9" side of this piece every ½", mark with pencil. **This must be accurate or the spin will not sit flat.
  3. Then score at each pencil mark and fold accordion style.
  4. With the first and last edges facing down (this is the side of the spine that will show) place Sticky Strip on every other space between each score line from top to bottom starting with the second space. The first and last spaces are where you will attach the covers to. **Leave the red on the Sticky Strip for now!
  5. With the first and last edges facing upward mark the following ½" spaces with an X; 3-4, 7-8, 11-12, 15-16. This is where the hockey cards will go.
  6. Sticky Strip the "closed" end of the hockey card holders on both sides. **Use full pieces of Sticky Strip for this project, small cut pieces will not hold.
  7. Then peel the red off the Sticky Strip on the front and back of the hockey cards, centre in the sections you marked with an X, and stick both sides in. Continue until all four cards are in place.
  8. Flip over and peel the red off the Sticky Strip from Step 4, and adhere together.
  9. For the covers, cut 2 pieces of chipboard measuring 4 ½" x 3 ½". After trying the smaller cutters, I found the Table Top Cutter works excellent for cutting chipboard of any thickness! If you use thinner chipboard it looks good when you round the corners, but don't try it with the thicker chipboard.
  10. Before adhering the cover to the spine, you will want to decorate the front cover of your albums. As well cut three more pieces of coordinating cardstock or paper for the insides and back cover.
Here is a picture of what the inside should look like:
Enjoy!!

A quick summary of the Western Fair Classes

This is the complete list of classes that our Stampin' Up! booth will be teaching at the Western Fair this fall. We are very excited to have partnered with the Western Fair to offer these classes for FREE to crafting enthusiasts in London & Area. If you are visiting the Western Fair this September pop by our booth in the Canada Building.

  • We will have room for 12 crafty people at each class. You have to get a ticket for the class in order to attend it. Tickets are free, we will not charge for a class. If you would like to attend a class, you must be at least 18yrs old.
  • We will be distributing free tickets to the class in the same manner that the Creative Festival in Toronto does.
  • Tickets are available at the information booth located inside the Canada Building (same building we are located in). There will be a sign posted for the class about 40 minutes before the class starts - line up at the sign. At 15 minutes prior to the class the agent at the information booth with give 12 tickets to the first 12 people in line. These will be specially printed tickets. Once you have a ticket, bring it to our booth and you can have a seat in the Stampin' Studio located right next to our booth. Classes are on a first come first served basis - If you want to come to the class it will be worth the wait in line.
  • If you don't know what the Canada booth looks like, here's a photo of it on the Western Fair's website: http://www.westernfair.com/rentals/rentals-canada.html
  • We will also have little cards made up for people who don't get a ticket asking them to visit out booth for information on how to attend a similar class after the fair. We would love to be able to teach you all at once, but there just isn't enough space to accommodate classes larger than 12.
